Hydraulics in Artificial Lift
"What about pressure loses induced by the flow of fluids?"
When dealing with CT the frequent question is... What about pressure loses induced by the flow of fluids through small ID’s?
We have to differentiate between continuous pumping and “intermittent fluid displacement”
In drilling or work over, pumping pressure loses have to be considered, since high volumes of fluids are conveyed through a relatively small ID’s or annular spaces, but in artificial lift, particularly in rod pumping wells, commonly refer as pumping, we are intermittently displacing fluid to the surface, and pressure loses are not a concern.
Typical production rates in rod pumping wells can easily be displaced to surface through small diameter CT.
